What to Expect

Our full day escape tour starts with a pick up at your accommodation in Zagreb and comfy drive towards Lika region. Upon arrival, you will meet your guide at the entrance of Park and start your forestry, speleological tour. First, you will take a nice walk up to Samograd cave – the only touristic cave in the Park. The whole cave was built in Upper Cretaceous limestone along the main N-S crack. Walk 750 meters uphill. The cave is located in a karst sinkhole in which you enter via concrete steps with a handrail, while in the cave itself there are hand chiseled stone steps more than a hundred years old with wooden handrails. The real length of Samograd cave is 345,8 meter and it has 480 hands chiseled steps. Enjoy its grand ceilings, cave jewelry, bridges, and balconies.

You will spent about an hour on your speleological exploring. Afterward, you are in for 20 educational panels, located on the trail which tell us about natural, cultural, and historical significances of this area. As part of the trail, there is the viewpoint located on the top of the Park´s hill (770m above sea level). During clear weather, you can experience a beautiful panoramic view of the mountain area.

The area is characterized by landscape values that make it very recognizable hill of this part of Lika. There are 9 speleological objects protected by the Nature Protection Law. Besides that, caves Samograd, Medina and Amidžina are individually protected (in 1964) by the Nature Protection Law in the category of geomorphological monuments of nature. The area is dominated by hills covered with low woods (coppice) of common beech and sessile oak. The highest peaks are Šutića vrh (787 m asl) and Grabovača (770 m asl).

• Departure from Zagreb is at 9 am.
• Drive to the park takes about 2 hours, depends on traffic.
• Your guide will wait for at the entrance where you start your walking tour through the park.
• The trail is long about 3,5 km

Special skill

• No previous experience is required for this tour. However, participants are responsible for being insufficient health and physical fitness to join the trip.

Know before you go

• The temperature inside the cave averages at 8°C so long-sleeved clothes and firm footwear is advised.
• Visiting the cave is not possible in inappropriate footwear. because of the surface on which you walk (gravel, soil, and stone).
• If you like, bring snacks and water with you.
• Do not hesitate to let us know if you need a transfer from another city to the meeting point.
